The Green Onions Band exists to carry the groove forward, always pointing back to the origins of the wonderful sounds that Booker T. & the M.G.s brought us over the years.
We call this A Celebration of the Music of Booker T. & the M.G.s. One might rightfully ask, “Isn’t that just another way of saying ‘cover band?’ Why would you want to cover someone else’s music?” To which we would reply, “This is everyone’s music.”
Fortunately, there is plenty of documentation on the impact that Booker T. & the M.G.s have had on music and culture. Bandleader Booker T. Jones combined his background in gospel and classical music, blues and jazz to create compelling grooves and solid melodies that largely defined what we now call rhythm and blues.
But he didn’t do this alone. Anyone carefully listening to the M.G.s can hear that drums, bass, and guitar were all integrated together with the Hammond B3 into the groove that was the soul of all their songs. This was, in fact, one of the first “integrated” (African American and White) bands – poetically birthed in Memphis during the 60’s.
The music and the message it carries is timeless. It's as much "Now" as it is "Then." Ready to celebrate?
